Green guinness and Leprechauns

On St Patrick’s Day in Cairns, Far North Queensland, Australia, thousands of people are drinking green Guinness and claiming allegiance to the Irish flag. Some are visitors from Ireland, many have emigrated from Ireland to Australia in fairly recent years but most are descendants of early Irish Immigrants who resettled in Australia playing a major role in developing this country to what it is today.

Throughout Australia and also the world Irish people join with those around them in celebrating all things Irish in remembrance of Ireland’s National Day. Wherever you are, I hope you have enjoyed festivities today. It is the one day of the year when we can all let out a little of the Leprechaun within.
